China-Based Labon Locates U.S. Manufacturing Hub In Orangeburg, South Carolina
12/20/2016
To launch its first operations in the U.S., Labon has purchased a 15,700-square-foot facility, which will utilize raw materials to produce fibers. Located at 122 Industrial Boulevard in Orangeburg., the company’s new facility is projected to be operational by January 2017.
Established in Shanghai in 2005, Labon specializes in the research, development and manufacturing of technical fibers and textiles for use across a variety of applications, including sealing, friction, hand protection and flame-retardant products.
As an incentive, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project.
“Labon is excited to launch our first operations in the United States in Orangeburg County. Between the skilled workforce and friendly business climate, this decision was easy for us. This development will allow us, not only to accommodate our continued business growth, but better serve our customers as well,” Labon General Manager Hongxin Chen said.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Labon to the South Carolina family. It’s special any time a company decides to invest in one of our rural counties because it drastically improves the lives of those in the area. We thank Labon and its leadership for the commitment this investment represents to our state and our people, and look forward to seeing the impact it will have on the Orangeburg community,” said Governor Nikki Haley.
“SC Ports Authority welcomes Labon’s first U.S. operations facility to South Carolina, and looks forward to serving their growing cargo needs. Our ability to capably and efficiently handle imports and exports for manufacturers across South Carolina is a top priority for the SCPA,” said SC Ports Authority President & CEO Jim Newsome.
“Over 60 percent of the announced capital investment here in our region over the past two years has been from foreign-owned enterprises. Today, South Carolina and, specifically, Orangeburg County celebrate another foreign direct investment win for our communities. Congratulations to Labon on their first United States location. We look forward to their successes and watching them grow for many years to come,” explained Mike Brenan, Chairman of Central SC Alliance.
